I often ask, "Why is pornography such a popular industry?" Does it have to do with a counter-balancing force reacting against our American Puritan sensiblities? I look at those Fit Club Billboards with the ladies in their bikini's and I just wanna see their nipples. Now why is that my reaction? Nipples have no value to me, other than to remind me of the sex I am not getting. I am a visually oriented American male, and somehow I have been trained, like Pavlov's dog, to react to certain images of women.
It is what is hidden which is what I focus on (This is a common theme in much of my writings and thoughts.).
In France they show bare boobies, and it is no big deal. But here, it is the forbidden fruit.
In Japan, which is a much more strict and repressed society, their pornagraphic tastes would seem extremely fetishized. This is that repression acting out; the deeper the repression, the more extreme ways the sex act gets acted out in those expensive hotel rooms.
But what about the pornagraphy industry in the Arab or Hindu world? This is not an area I have studied. I seen a lot of porn made in Hungary, where the girls are just stunning. I know porn is a worldwide phenomenon. The argument could even be made that porn is mainly responsible for the popularity of the VCR, the freeze-frame pause button, and the quick expansion of the Internet. So how does porn affect different cultures, how pervasive is it, and what is the need being fullfilled with it?
